When the rose is faded,
Memory may still dwell on
Her beauty shadowed,
And the sweet smell gone
That vanishing loveliness,
That burdening breath,
No bond of life hath then,
Nor grief of death.
'Tis the immortal thought
Whose passion still
Makes the changing
The unchangeable.
Oh, thus thy beauty,
Loveliest on earth to me,
Dark with no sorrow, shines
And burns, with thee.

Lovely poems!
Lovely flower photo and poem. I like to take the transitional stages of a flower. Not just when they are at the prime.
Perfect words for these pictures. I often keep cut flowers long after their peak, just to observe this process.
I like the way you combined the poetry with the pictures--like a visual poem.
I enjoyed this post, made me think while I was looking.... very good combination.
Ah, the poem added a nice touch to the visual transition of the rose. Everything changes but it's always beautiful if we allow ourselves to see it even in the ugly stages. Great photos.
Love this type of transition! It's always made me a little sad when flowers go past their prime--isn't there some beauty in them still? I think you proved there is!
you could make this into a greeting card for someones loss. It would help remind them that even though they have lost, the memory of their beauty will never be forgotten.
Isn't if awful that such a pretty bloom has to deteriorate that way. Poor thing.
I love the poem. I never knew a wilted flower could make such a nice photo.
lovely photos to illustrate the poem.
Macro photos are interesting even if the roses are faded. You' captured them very artistically and I like the words too.
Have a great weekend!
Withered or fresh, a rose is still rose and the beauty always remain with it.
You chose the perfect verse to illustrate your photos (which are stunning) - or is that vice versa? A truly beautiful transition!
nice transition with words and images. I love all the stages you have shown here.
